How to Set Up a Wireless Microphone

Get a handheld or headset wireless mic ready for a speaker in about five minutes.

What You'll Need

  • Wireless microphone
  • Two fresh AA batteries
  • Matching receiver (labeled)
  • Access to the mixer

Steps

  1. 1Open the battery compartment and insert two fresh AA batteries.
  2. 2Turn on the microphone and wait for the green light.
  3. 3Find the matching receiver in the rack and confirm it shows signal bars.
  4. 4On the mixer, find the channel with the mic's name and unmute it.
  5. 5Ask someone to speak into the mic while you slowly raise the fader.
  6. 6Mute the channel again until the speaker is ready.
Important
Never pull out or swap batteries while the channel is unmuted — it creates a loud pop through the speakers.

If It Doesn't Work

  • Try fresh batteries again.
  • Check the mic and receiver are on the same channel.
  • Use the backup mic and tell your team lead.
